Doom.

It sits like a forgotten piece of meat cast aside by the roadside. Miscreant insects buzzing about its nasty odor, filtering deep within the consciousness of Man and Beast. Tattered by the passage of time, a tiny little spark of merit for another to gorge upon and take up the banner for conquest.

Doom.

A light upon the panel above our station as we float here out in the vacuous environment known as outer space. We gaze down upon the lonely Earth calmly rotating unaware of the events that transpire. So fragile, so peaceful, so all alone. The lovely little planet in its quiet corner of the Galaxy, calmly swimming through time and space.

Doom.

A droplet of fluid in a dynamic sphere. One little component to a larger design. Infiltrating, initiating, building upon the blocks of life. Insinuating, insulating, digging deeper into the bedrock of existence. Darker and darker the day is being drawn.

Doom.

A note, clear and clarion, cast out upon the void, the cacophony, the whole of one and being not. Round out, round out! Call out for the corps! The legion has been risen, and the best of the best of the best are attempting to hold back the storm.

Doom.

It begins soon ...

Screaming in the halls.
Darkness from the sky falls.
Flaying the flesh from souls
And discarding the waste down the hole.
Time for cookies!

well for atmoshere we could chain up some people in basement the wailing and screams would soon become moans and then with a steady supply of drinking water that could last for weeks

You know how like in Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, that music kicks up whenever the hordes of darkness swarm into the cities or planets or whatnot...do we have anything like that? Music to sack by?

Famous Monsters Of Filmland Returns To Print

Famous Monsters of Filmland, the classic sci-fi/horror/fantasy-specific film magazine that captured the imaginations of so many for more than three decades, today announced its return to print.

Resurrection House – Book Review

The eight reprinted and two new stories in Resurrection House horrifically reflect reminders of the fragility of being human.

Ron Breznay’s Old Masters of Horror: Charles Dickens

For many people, Christmas isn’t complete without Charles Dickens’s “A Christmas Carol” – whether they read the story, go to the local theater to see a stage production, or watch one of the many movie versions.

Storytellers Unplugged

One more Q&A

In January, I’ll be back to trying to think of my own content again, but here’s December’s Q&A:

Q: How about the writing lessons you’ve learned along the way? Anything from outlining to editing your own work.

Try to write every day.

Take notes. No matter how certain you are that you could never possibly forget the incredibly [...]

Okay, I am actually quite afraid

So I know the last time I blogged here, I proudly proclaimed I had no fear. Well. That was specific to the new publishing wilderness. I have tons of fear. I’m full of the stuff.

A nasty farmer inside me plants festering seeds that grow with my insecurities to fertilize. What if this story sucks? What if [...]

Dream Versus Time, Life, the World, And All The Really Important Things

The holidays are coming.  We’re arriving at an intersection of worlds – the real and the imagined, outer and inner, concrete and symbolic, the past and the now.

What must be done, what needs to be done.

Kids dressed up as monsters expect candy offerings.  Blood-bonded friends and enemies gather for the ritual slaughter [...]

Secret Agent Man

Secret agent man, secret agent man,

They’ve given you a number and taken away your name.

Show of hands:  how many of you are happy with your literary agent?  My guess is that probably fewer than half of you are raising your hands.  In my writing life I have had three agents.  When I was with agent [...]

Three Editing Tips

So the first draft is finished, and now you have to edit the sonofabitch.

Most writers don’t particularly enjoy the task of rewriting/editing, but I do. Not sure why, but I find it sometimes more rewarding than the initial writing.

Now, for me, the best way [...]
