I woke up to an empty bed for the second night in a row, but I didn’t fade off into sleep. The previous night I had, and when I questioned Jake the next morning, he said that he’d just gone to the bathroom. I didn’t believe that, and the second n...

I'd be happy to look through your other stories, though that'll be slow going for the same reason I don't have very many of my own to share - this is my last semester at BSU, and I've wound up with a 21 hour schedule that includes taking several of the required senior classes in the same semester, rather than spread out. I'm dead most nights and grateful for sleep most mornings.

I'm generally somewhat embarassed by the stuff I wrote anything more than a year ago, but I'll see what I can find kicking around my hard drive.

Profile Information

About Me:
I'm a writer of dark and weird fiction with three novels out right now:
The Lesser of Two Evils (mystery/horror)
Trail of Madness (the sequel to The Lesser of Two Evils)
Redemption Lost (concluding novel in the Campaign trilogy)

I also offer free short stories on my web site for people who would like to check out my writing style before taking a risk on my books.

I am working to submit some of my stories with other publishers, and I hope to one day earn the right to call myself a prolific writer.

I live in Milan Italy with my husband Luciano, though I originally hail from Texas. This might explain why most of my stories take place in Texas. As they say, "You can take the writer out of Texas..."

Haunting Sins - Part 1

It was in the middle of the broiling blacktop parking lot that déjà vu assailed David Sands. But instead of the impression that he’d already had a similar experience, he sensed that he was about to fail at finding a job again.

His destination was a video store, and every other window not dominated by movie posters was plastered with signs that declared Now Hiring.

But experience had taught David that “now hiring” didn’t mean what he thought it did. Usually, “now hiring” meant, “looking… Continue

Served Cold - Part 1

Plip.

Anthony Baxter watched the blood drop hit the surface of the water. Tendrils of crimson spread like a microscopic organism reaching for prey before the blood dissolved. It had barely blended with the stained water in the sink when another drop fell from the tip of Anthony’s nose to start the process over again.

The water was almost red when the slow leak stopped. Anthony closed his eyes and scooped up a handful of water, splashing his face to wash congealed blood from his lips and… Continue

A Phone Man Visits the Vampires - Part 1

Thursday, April 23, 1998

And so we come at last to the house of the setting sun. Mortimer Gorski thought this as he turned the service van onto the upscale residential block because he was listening to House of the Rising Sun on his portable CD player.

He pulled the white van into the driveway and leaned over to grab a file folder from the passenger seat. With his other hand, he reached up to tug off his headphones. He deposited them over the CD player and shut it off, and… Continue

Storytellers Unplugged

A novel a month?

Well, it’s November again. Halloween is done Thanksgiving is on the way (Pause here, folks, and contemplate what you have to be thankful for. The odds are there’s a good deal going right, even if there’s some negatives out there.) and a plethora of various religious celebrations are eight around the corner. Some of my [...]

The Compounds (and compound-complexes) of Style

Perhaps you believe in the soul. Perhaps you don’t, and only view a living being as a series of biological functions acting in concert.  Under either philosophy, you will view a dead body as different from a living person.  All of the physical components are there, but the core of the individual is gone.

At this [...]

What I Learned From Blogging About the Kindle

Let’s Just Pretend The Last 8 Months Never Happened

Looks like it was a sabbatical after all.

Last March, after close to a three-year tenure, I hung up my Storytellers U hat — the one with the Viking horns and a beer funnel — without knowing whether this would be permanent or temporary. Couldn’t help but notice, in the interim, that lords-of-the-manor [...]

AND NOW, OUR … LOSER!

I wrote a story. Entered.

Lost.

Here’s the loser.

THE GHOSTS OF CHICAGO, I SET THEM FREE
