Graveside Tales

Through yesterday's excursion in an old cemetery, I learn the hard way that some things are better left undisturbed. Restless spirits? Eternal boredom?

Let's just say it's a lesson learned. You can check out my graveside tale here:

All of your graveyard pictures remind me of death.

I have a fancy for graveyards and old tombstones most of my friends and family find disturbing. I like to sit and stare at them while tracing the letters, trying to imagine what their lives had been like. The older the tombstone the better. History has a way of speaking beyond the grave. Your graveyard sounds like an interesting place to visit. I wonder what life was like for the child whose resting place lay lost and forgotten at the back.

Now, for me, the best way [...]

The Anatomy and Creation of a Story Pt. 2

This is an ongoing discussion of the process I use to write short stories…not that there is a set process, as it’s different each time.  I started this in “Part One” back on my personal blog, and wanted to continue here to mix up the audience as much as possible.

In part one, I discussed the [...]

“This soap box is not big enough for the both of us.”

I asked readers for topics they would like to see me address in this blog, and I got a slew of great responses, something that will keep me in columns for a few months to come.

Here’s the question that got top billing for [...]

Providence, 1986

Providence, 1986 Wayne Allen Sallee 28 November 2009

I have a road trip, of sorts, ahead of me in a few hours. A zig-zag across the transit system of Chicago. I’m heading up north, but first I have to take the 55th Street bus to an artist friend’s place and drop off a few autographed books. There is [...]
